DOCUMENTS IN FOREIGN TRADE

Bill of Lading - BOL or B/L
  • evidence of the contract of carriage of goods
  • serves as a receipt of the goods (signed by the carrier)
  • also a document of transfer
  • the carrier's duty is to deliver the goods to the person who presents the original BL

Export License
Definition
A document indicating that a government has granted a licensee the right to export specified goods to specified countries.

Certificate of Origin
  • a document required by foreign governments that validates country of origin
  • the country of origin is the country where the product was manufactured or last underwent a substantial change or modification
  • certain countries engaged in Free Trade Agreements don't require a Certificate of Origin
